The Coalition lost one of
its true leaders with the death of Dick Cunningham on March 1, 2001.
He was both a great death row lawyer and a creative and committed
activist. Dick continues to be remembered and honored by his colleagues
and the anti-death penalty movement. His wife Maria now serves on
the ICADP Board.

The Governor's Commission
on Capital Punishment is nearing completion of Its work. The Coalition

The Coalition worked with
its partners the Catholic Conference of Illinois. ACLU, Amnesty
International and League of Women Voters to educate legislators
on the flaws in House Bill 1812, which would have expanded the death
penalty to include murders committed in furtherance of gang activity.
Governor Ryan wisely vetoed the bill in August. Many Coalition members
took the time to contact their legislator and the governor. Thanks!
