ILLINOIS COALITION AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY
MOURNS THE PASSING OF SENATOR PAUL SIMON

(Chicago) . . . The Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty today joined all Illinoisans in mourning the passing of Illinois Senator Paul Simon.

“Senator Paul Simon, who was a member of the Coalition, was a consistent and eloquent opponent of capital punishment,” said Jane Bohman, Executive Director of the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. “His service on the Governor’s Commission on Capital Punishment, and advocacy for abolition of the death penalty, displayed the same leadership and integrity that he showed throughout his distinguished career as a newspaperman, political leader and educator,” continued Bohman.

“Now more than ever, our state and the nation need political leaders like Senator Simon who will act on conscience and reason to solve pressing issues such as the crisis in the Illinois capital punishment system,” concluded Bohman.
