CDS benefit ICADP
Bloodshot Records has announced the
release of the Executioner's Last Songs, Vols. 2 & 3, which will
benefit the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and the National
Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. Here's what Bloodshot has
to say about it.
Dear Friends,
In these times it seems that music and politics make strange bedfellows.
Becoming too political can hurt the bottom line. Luckily, as a small
label we can remain above (or below) the fray. You wont see our
artists talking to ABC News about how they shouldnt have said
that thing about the president. No, over here at rancho de bloodshot,
we prefer our grassroots, put-your-money-where-your-mouth-is
approach. Thats why hot on the heels of last year's rousing success,
the Pine Valley Cosmonauts are back to raise more hell and more cash
to help wean America off its life threatening death penalty dependency.
Since the completion of Volume One, we invited more of our favorite
singers and songwriters to contribute their voices and reputations to
a second effort. We were pleasantly trampled by herds of willing collaborators
(hence the double disc). They suggested deathly ditties unknown to us,
wrote site-specific new ones or quietly bent our cruel and unusual will.
If irony is your thing youll love that just like last time, all
the songs are about death and dying, killing and being killed. However,
if irony is not your thing you can no doubt enjoy 27 songs about death
and dying, killing and being killed. Either way we will take your money
and donate it to groups opposed to the death penalty, but should you
really let that get in the way of enjoying the great music. Not when
you check out many of the artists who contributed their voluminous talents
to the effort.
Contributing artists include: Tim Rutili (Califone), Dave Alvin (Blasters,
Knitters), Kurt Wagner (Lambchop), Otis Clay (smoooth soul singin' legend),
Sally Timms, Kelly Hogan, English folk heroine Charlotte Greig, Alejandro
Escovedo, Rebecca Gates (Spinanes), Rhett Miller (Old 97's), Mark Eitzel
(American Music Club), English folk-rock weirdo genius Kevin Coyne,
Jon Rauhouse, a classic track from The Sundowners, and more. WOW!!!
These two CDs are just 15 bucks. A crazy low price for lo, these crazy
times.
