Illinois voters prefer an alternative to the death penalty

July 19, 2010: We were excited to see news of a recent poll indicating voters' prefer an alternative sentence to the death penalty generating a buzz in the state. Last week we blogged about the results that reflect our changing attitude about the death penalty especially when it comes to the enormous cost of maintaining a broken system when we could use those funds to prevent crime. More then half of those polled didn't even think our state still had the death penalty.
